Business Reforms by Our CFO
In order to change the future as a company, we believe that the next generation, whose lives will be lived in the future, should participate in management discussions alongside our current management team.
Accordingly, we chose a Chief Future Officer (hereafter, “CFO”) from among over 500 applicants in October 2019.

CFO Role and Policy Establishment
Together with the euglena Future Summit Members (hereafter, “Summit Members”), the CFO’s role is to spearhead management which does not harm the needs of future generations, enabling euglena Co., Ltd. to contribute to the sustainable development of society.
Since their appointment in October 2019, the CFO and Summit Members have investigated whether the state of our business operations are in line with our corporate philosophy of “making people and the Earth healthy,” and have established the following environmental policy.

regardless of how high or low their awareness of environmental issues may be.
Our Decision and Challenge
Based on the policy established by the CFO and Summit Members, euglena Co., Ltd. made the decision to take on the challenge of reducing the amount of petroleum-based plastics used in our products by 50% by 2021.

Measure 1: Elimination of all existing plastic bottles
We will eliminate all current plastic bottle beverage products and replace them with paper pack products that have a low environmental impact.
Measure 2: Make straws optional for some products
We will make it possible for customers to choose whether or not to receive plastic straws with the paper pack products sold in our online store.
In addition to the two measures above, we will be completely reviewing the use of petroleum-based plastics in the product containers for our healthcare business, and we will aim to further reduce the amount of petroleum-based plastic used through means such as reducing the weight of containers and reevaluating our product lineup.
Future Policies
We believe that it is our responsibility as a company to prevent current adult customers from unintentionally adding to the environmental burden that future generations will bear through the use of our products.
Going forward, we will not stop just at initiatives to reduce product plastics, but will continue to explore policies related to environmentally-conscious conduct.
Message from the CFO
Hello, it is a pleasure to meet you.
I am Kyoko Ozawa, CFO of euglena Co., Ltd.
I’d like to convey my thoughts and the background behind euglena’s announcement on June 29, 2020 that it would be eliminating all existing plastic bottle products.
Through personal experience and various news concerning environmental problems, I came to feel a sense of crisis regarding the state of our planet today.
And so, as a step toward resolving this situation, I applied to become euglena’s CFO.
In the repeated discussions held with the Summit Members in the several months since I was appointed CFO, a question arose: “Even though the Earth is already in crisis, why aren’t people able to take action?”
We then thought, “If it’s hard for people to see environmental issues as their own problem, what if companies created a system which made it possible for consumers to be environmentally friendly without even being conscious of it?”
We proposed this idea to euglena, which led to the elimination of all existing plastic bottle products.
It is my hope that this kind of environmentally-conscious action will spread to other companies and lead to the realization of a world in which being environmentally friendly is the natural thing to do.
