ヒトの体内ではストレスから身体を防御するために自律神経系や内分泌系、免疫系のバランスをコントロールすることで身体を一定の状態に保っています。しかし、過度なストレスにより自律神経のバランスが崩れると、ストレスに対する抵抗力が弱まり、睡眠の質や意欲の低下などのさまざまな身体的・精神的症状が起こります。
今回の研究では微細藻類ユーグレナの摂取が、作業ストレス負荷をかけた際の自律神経、心理面、睡眠の質等の各種指標にどのように影響を及ぼすかを評価しました。 その結果、作業ストレス負荷がかかっている際の自律神経バランスの調整やイライラ感・緊張感の抑制、睡眠の質の改善を示すこと確認しました。Click here for the release at the time of publication of the paper
Effects of paramylon on immune regulation

これまでの研究を通じて、微細藻類ユーグレナの継続摂取により、主にユーグレナに含まれるパラミロンを関与成分のひとつとして、免疫バランスを保ち、インフルエンザウイルス感染症状を緩和する可能性や、関節リウマチの症状を緩和する可能性等を明らかにしてきました。また、その作用メカニズムのひとつとして、パラミロンが腸管内の免疫細胞に直接作用する可能性を発表してきました。
今回の研究では、ユーグレナ社が2019年に発表した独自の高効率ゲノム編集技術を活用して作出した「パラミロンを蓄積しないユーグレナ」が免疫系に及ぼす影響を調べることで、パラミロンの免疫系への関与のさらなる考察を行いました。 その結果、「パラミロン高含有ユーグレナ」添加では、T細胞とB細胞の活性化がみられ、免疫系への関与が確認された一方で、ゲノム編集で作出した「パラミロンを蓄積しないユーグレナ」添加ではT細胞とB細胞の活性化はみられず、免疫系への関与が確認されませんでした。Click here for the release at the time of publication of the paper
