Real Tech Fund Develops Next-Generation Wind Turbine "Vertical Axis Magnus Wind Turbine"
Invested in "Charenergy Co., Ltd."

Euglena Investment Co., Ltd.

Euglena Investment Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Akihiko Nagata) has developed the next-generation wind power generator "Vertical Axis Magnus Wind Turbine" as a new investment destination for the venture capital fund "Real Tech Fund". We are pleased to inform you that we have invested in Charenergy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Charenergy Co., Ltd.).
"Vertical axis type Magnus wind power generator" * Fig. 1 shows the lift generated when multiple rotating columns receive wind instead of the propeller of the existing wind power generator * 1 * Fig. 2 is used to determine the rotation axis. It is a next-generation wind power generator that combines a "Magnus type * 2" that rotates to generate electricity and a "vertical axis type * 3" that arranges the rotation axis perpendicular to the ground. Conventional propeller-type wind power generators have a risk of runaway or damage to the propeller due to strong winds or turbulence, which has contributed to the slowdown in the introduction of wind power generation in areas with many typhoons such as Japan. On the other hand, the "vertical axis type Magnus wind power generator" can cope with the environment where the wind speed changes and the wind direction change drastically by controlling the rotation speed of the column, and can suppress the runaway of the wind turbine even in a strong wind such as a typhoon. Therefore, it is expected that stable power generation can be continued, leading to expansion of the area where wind power generation can be introduced.
 * 1 Lift generated when receiving wind: When the wind blows into a rotating cylinder, a force is generated in the direction perpendicular to the direction of travel of the wind (Magnus effect).
 * 2 Magnus type: A power generation method that uses the Magnus effect * 1. Lift is generated by blowing wind into the rotating cylinder, and the windmill rotates on its axis.
 * 3 Vertical axis type: A format in which the rotation axis is arranged perpendicular to the direction of the ground.

Charenergy has developed the world's first "vertical axis type Magnus wind power generator", which has been difficult to put into practical use, and succeeded in generating electricity in a field test of a prototype (maximum output 1 kW) in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture. I will. By promoting the development and commercialization of the "vertical axis type Magnus wind power generator" in the future, the company will provide safe and secure energy even in areas where it was difficult to install wind power generators due to the effects of typhoons and the like. We aim to supply electricity and are expected to contribute to the development of a sustainable world.
The company is a 2016 "R & D-type venture support project / commercialization support for R & D-type ventures in the seed period" subsidized by the National Research and Development Corporation New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) (hereinafter, NEDO). Following the adoption of STS), we are proceeding with the commercialization of a 10kW next-generation wind power generator that can generate stable power even under typhoons.
This time, the Real Tech Fund will underwrite the shares issued by Charenergy through a third-party allotment, and will support the company's research and development, sales and marketing activities as a certified VC in NEDO's STS.
 The details are as follows.
