　Euglena Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, President: Mitsuru Izumo) has been conducting R & D project title "Advanced utilization and cultivation of unused algae" in the "Strategic Innovation Creation Program (SIP: SIP)" of the Cabinet Office. We are pleased to announce that we have been selected as an institution for research and development of "production of useful substances such as highly unsaturated fatty acids from algae" in "Research and Development for the Creation of the Next Generation Fisheries Industry".

　The "Strategic Innovation Creation Program (SIP)" is a program created to realize innovation in science and technology, and is promoted by the Cabinet Office.
　The title of the research and development project, "Research and development for the creation of a next-generation fishery industry that uses unused algae for advanced purposes and culture," is based on the high added value of algae, with Kenji Ishihara, a senior researcher at the Fisheries Research Agency, as the principal investigator. We will establish athlete strains that produce ingredients with high efficiency, develop low-cost mass culture systems, and conduct research on functional development and product development of useful ingredients for algae.
　Our company specializes in "production of useful substances such as highly unsaturated fatty acids from algae" among R & D issues, and know-how that we have used the Euglena Utilizing our knowledge, we plan to promote the value evaluation of unused algae and the construction of a business model for the cultured fishery industry. Among the issues, while expanding knowledge about algae in general and improving technology for new product development, we selected a business domain that we can finally enter based on the value evaluation of the substances produced by algae, and made products. We aim to become a product. The research started in October 2014 and is scheduled to last for four and a half years until March 2019.
