国立研究開発法人宇宙航空研究開発機構（JAXA）が行う国際宇宙ステーション内の「き

ぼう」日本実験棟の船内環境を利用する実験テーマ（フィジビリティスタディテーマ）と

して、「宇宙空間におけるミドリムシによる物質循環サイクルの実現可能性検証」が採択

されました。

なお、今回の採択は、九州大学大学院工学研究院の星野准教授を代表者に、研究分担者で

ある当社を含む研究チームにて実験テーマ「宇宙空間におけるミドリムシによる物質循環

サイクルの実現可能性検証」を申請し、採択されたものです。また、研究チームのメン

バーは、内閣府革新的研究開発推進プログラム（ImPACT）「セレンディピティの計画的

創出による新価値創造」の研究開発機関に所属する研究者を中心に構成されています。

実験では、宇宙空間（閉鎖的空間）にて、人の呼吸により発生する二酸化炭素や主に排出

物として発生するアンモニアやリン酸などを用いて、微細藻類のミドリムシを培養して食

資源にすることで閉鎖系における物質循環の根幹を構築することを目的とします。国際宇

宙ステーション「きぼう」日本実験棟では、微小重力環境下でミドリムシの代謝パターン

等の変化を調べる予定です。
