Euglena Group’s épauler Izumo Factory Obtains Halal Certification
Strengthening Product Deployment in Islamic Markets and Accelerating Overseas Expansion

 Euglena Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Mitsuru Izumo, hereinafter “Euglena”) and épauler Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture; President: Kosuke Takemura, hereinafter “Épauler”) are pleased to announce that part of the production line*1 at the Épauler Izumo Factory (Location: Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture), the manufacturing base for Euglena Group’s health food products*2, has obtained Halal certification.
 Until now, the Euglena Group has obtained Halal certification for microalgae Euglena and Chlorella produced by Yaeyama Shokusan Co., Ltd. (Location: Ishigaki City, Okinawa Prefecture, hereinafter “Yaeyama Shokusan”) *3. With this new certification, the Group can now provide a fully integrated Halal-certified production system, from raw material powder production to final product processing and manufacturing.

Épauler Izumo Factory

 Currently, the global Muslim population is estimated at approximately 2 billion, accounting for about one in four people worldwide. The Muslim population is expected to continue growing, making the Muslim market a noteworthy growth market in the global economy. With this Halal certification at Épauler, the Euglena Group can now fully expand its product offerings to the Muslim market. In response to global market expansion and diversifying consumer needs, the Group will accelerate the rollout of Halal-certified products, especially in Asia centered on Malaysia, and strengthen its system to meet local demand.

■Euglena Group’s Overseas Business
 Yaeyama Shokusan, the microalgae cultivation base, has obtained several international certifications in addition to Halal, including US GRAS certification*4, Kosher certification*5, and ASC-MSC seaweed certification*6. The Euglena Group aims to further expand its overseas business by providing both raw materials and products derived from microalgae such as Euglena and Chlorella, leveraging the growth of the global algae market and increasing health consciousness in Asia.

*1: In the line, all processes — from raw material acceptance, weighing, mixing, tableting, filling, to shipping — are certified.
*2: Halal certification is a system in which a specialized certification body objectively certifies that products and services comply with Islamic law and are “permissible” under Islamic law. It examines whether products contain prohibited items such as pork or alcohol, and whether there is any cross-contamination during manufacturing. Certified products are marked with a unique certification mark.
