Isuzu Motors Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President: Susumu Hosoi, hereafter Isuzu) and Euglena Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, President: Mitsuru Izumo, hereafter Euglena) , Micro-alga Euglena (Japanese name: Midorimushi) -derived next-generation bio-diesel fuel has been signed for practical use, and the "DeuSEL® (*) project" will be started. In addition, as the first step of the activity, the regular operation of Isuzu's Fujisawa factory shuttle bus using the biodiesel "DeuSEL®" made from the world's first microalgae Euglena developed by Euglena. Will start on July 1st.
(*) DeuSEL® is a coined word that combines DIESEL and euglena (Euglena), and stands for biodiesel fuel made from Euglena (Japanese name: Euglena). This is a trademark jointly acquired by Isuzu and Our.

In recent years, global warming countermeasures have become an important issue, and many companies are working to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Especially for fuels, the development of biofuels is attracting attention, and among the biofuels, the development of fuels utilizing microalgae is being promoted all over the world.
Euglena is promoting the development of microalgae-derived biofuels by utilizing the outdoor mass culture technology of Euglena, the only microalgae in the world. The two companies have continued discussions focusing on the need to develop biodiesel fuel for long-distance transport vehicles, for which the need for light oil is expected to be high.

Under these circumstances, Euglena Co. Euglena as a raw material, and over a year succeeded in developing the biodiesel "DeuSEL®", which is a raw material for the Euglena
From July 1st, Isuzu has decided to use this "DeuSEL®" as fuel for the shuttle bus that runs regularly between the Fujisawa Plant and Shonandai Station. "DeuSEL®" used for buses Euglena as a raw material, but it can be used at high concentrations like the conventional biodiesel fuel that has already been standardized as a fuel. And special care for the vehicle is required.
Euglena Co., Ltd. and Isuzu are jointly working on research with the aim of putting into practical use a next-generation biodiesel fuel derived from the Euglena which can be used without burdening the engine of the vehicle even with a content of 100%. The DeuSEL® Project will start. Through this project, Euglena will promote research and development and production of next-generation biodiesel fuel, and Isuzu will evaluate the fuel, aiming to establish the technology by 2018.
