Euglena and Three Partner Organizations Hold
the 4th Global Algae Summit 2026 in Malaysia
237 participants from 9 countries and 64 organizations gather to discuss

the commercialization and practical applications of algae

Euglena Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President : Mitsuru Izumo; hereinafter “Euglena Co.”) announces that, together with Euglena Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (“Euglena Malaysia”), Leave a Nest Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (“Leave a Nest Malaysia”), and Sunway University, they  held the 4th Global Algae Summit 2026 (“GAS 2026”) in Malaysia on August 19, 2026.

GAS 2026 was held at Sunway University in Selangor, Malaysia, and brought together stakeholders from a wide range of fields, including universities, research institutions, companies, government agencies, and startups.

The Global Algae Summit is an international conference that brings together universities, research institutions, companies, government representatives, and other stakeholders engaged in algae-related research and business in Malaysia, across Southeast Asia, and around the world. It provides a forum for sharing research findings, technologies, and challenges related to commercialization, while building networks across disciplines and organizations. The Summit aims to advance the real-world application and commercialization of algae research.

The fourth Summit was held under the theme “The Algae Frontier: Catalysing Value and Impact.” A total of 237 participants from nine countries attended, representing 64 organizations, including 28 companies, 34 universities, and two other organizations. This fourth edition recorded the highest attendance in the Summit’s history, reflecting growing interest in the commercialization and real-world application of algae technologies.

Keynote Speeches, Discussions, and Exhibitions

The keynote speeches and panel discussions covered the latest trends in algae research, potential applications in food, agriculture, aquaculture, and environmental fields, and efforts toward commercialization.

Representing the Euglena Group, Seonghwan Kim, Euglena Senior Executive Officer and Managing Director of Euglena Malaysia, delivered a keynote speech titled “Microalgae: No Longer a Future Technology, It Is Already a Business.” He introduced initiatives to develop algae technologies from research and development into businesses and to build sustainable value chains. He also discussed the potential use of algae-derived ingredients in the healthcare sector in Asia and business development in overseas markets.

Researchers and business representatives from diverse fields also discussed resource circulation using underutilized resources and algae, as well as the potential role of algae in carbon markets. The program also included presentations, poster sessions, and exhibitions on agriculture and aquaculture using algae, biofuels, food, feed, and environmental technologies.

Euglena Co. will continue to hold the Summit and work with universities, research institutions, companies, and government representatives in Malaysia and other countries to advance algae-related research, development, and real-world application. Through these efforts, Euglena Co. aims to help realize sustainable industries and society through the use of algae.

About Euglena Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
Euglena Malaysia was established in 2022 as Euglena’s local base of operations in Malaysia. It opened its R&D division in January 2023 and conducted research at the Euglena-UTM satellite lab on the Kuala Lumpur campus of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) until April 2025.
