A paper on joint research with Tokyo University of Science on the Euglena cells using natural pigments was published in the international academic journal "PeerJ" on April 4.
The life or death of cells is determined by staining the cells with chemically synthesized dyes, but the dyes used in the past have had a detrimental effect on the cells. On the other hand, the natural pigments found in this study have been confirmed to be safe in the human body, and it has become clear that only dead cells can be stained without inhibiting the growth of Euglena rice field. This research is expected to be applied to life-and-death judgment monitoring in closed spaces and food-related facilities where safety is required.
