Nagata feels the need to develop biodiesel fuel for long-distance transport vehicles, which is expected to continue to have high needs for diesel fuel, and that is exactly the same idea as Isuzu Motors. Actually, I couldn't stop feeling happy because it was an event that Nagata wanted to work with Isuzu Motors.

Euglena and Isuzu Motors aimed for this "DeuSEL ® Project" to be a biodiesel fuel (= next-generation biodiesel fuel * 1) that can be used without burdening the engine of the vehicle even if the content is 100%. Is to put it to practical use.
However, making biodiesel fuel from Euglena is the world's first initiative.
Therefore, as a first step, we made a "conventional biodiesel fuel * 2" containing fuel derived from Midorimushi (hereinafter referred to as "Biodiesel fuel derived from Midorimushi"), and after having Isuzu Motors evaluate the fuel, the fuel was evaluated. Let's run the bus together with fuel! It became. Then, based on the idea of Mr. Omura of Isuzu Motors, the biodiesel fuel made from Euglena was named "DeuSEL ®" (a coined word that combines DIESEL and euglena (Euglena)).

The finished Euglena-derived biodiesel fuel did not meet the legal standards required for use on public roads. The bus was scheduled to be completed in 2013 and run on biodiesel fuel derived from Euglena in April 2014, but it is no longer in time.
Early after the New Year holidays in January, Nagata, Wakahara, and Ota headed for Isuzu Motors' Fujisawa Plant with a depressed feeling.
Upon reaching the conference room, the three bowed and apologized.
"I'm sorry! I couldn't make biodiesel fuel derived from Euglena ..."

Wakahara and his colleagues headed for Isuzu Motors Fujisawa Factory again.

Announced the start of the "DeuSEL ® Project", a joint research project between the two companies, aiming for the practical application of next-generation biodiesel fuel that can be used without any problems.
In addition, as the first step in the activities of the "DeuSEL ® Project", Isuzu's Fujisawa Plant shuttle bus "DeuSEL ® Bus" that uses the world's first biodiesel fuel "DeuSEL ®" derived from Midorimushi, developed by Euglena.
