GENKIプログラム運営改善 / 契約見直し
【2016年12月活動報告】

1.First of all

Happy New Year. By the end of last year, we had distributed 1.08 million meals, compared to the target of 1.5 million meals for this term. Although the attendance rate will drop significantly in January due to the winter vacation, we will firmly promote the program to ensure that the remaining 420,000 meals reach the children.

2. Renewal of program contract with NGO

The GENKI program covers 38 schools, 27 of which are run by volunteers and NGOs with support from abroad. The rest of the schools are supported by government agencies. This program is also in its third year in April of this year, so it is time to renew the contract. The contents have been reviewed to simplify various procedures. At the time of signing, we had an interview with the top management of each NGO and asked about improvements and requests for more. We will continue to work on improvement activities for efficient program management.

3. Voice of the principal

We signed a contract extension with Dr. Ali (Photo 2), the principal of Dhaka Ahsania Mission College, which started distributing cookies last month, and Sultana, the representative of OBAT (NGO). The children at Ashania are happy to eat cookies every day because the program has just begun, but since OBAT is in its third year, it seems that the children are getting a little tired of the taste of cookies. In the future, I realized that it is necessary to develop products that will make people more happy by devising the seasoning and form.

4. Winter tradition

Bangladesh has the image of a country of everlasting summer, but January and February are winter seasons, and the temperature drops to around 12 degrees Celsius. I usually wear light clothes and I don't have a heating system, so sometimes there is an article in the newspaper that there was a freezing death. Therefore, in the middle of winter, children warm themselves up by bonfires in the city and playing badminton, which is a national sport. At this time of year, a hot steamed confectionery called "Pita" (Photo 5) is popular. In Japan, it's like a meat bun.

5. Victory Day

Bangladesh celebrated its 46th Victory Day on December 16th. It was the day when the Bangladesh-Indian Allied Forces eliminated the Pakistani troops stationed in Bangladesh and won a nine-month civil war. Celebrate the anniversary by raising the national flag in the city. Cultural events are held at the school, and children pray to the line of duty death. It is a very important day for Bangladeshi people and those who died due to the independence of the country are highly respected. When I go to the countryside, there are still many old men who fought the Revolutionary War. They are called Freedom Fighters and are highly respected. We are often introduced with the feeling that "this person was a Freedom Fighter". At such times, he is very proud and feels the pride of the country that has won independence.
