【2017年1月活動報告】

1.First of all

Thank you for always Euglena As of the end of January 2017, we were able to deliver a total of 1.23 million cookies to children. I would like to firmly manage the program up to the goal of 1.5 million meals at the end of March. In February and March, the attendance rate is high every year, so we are pleased to be able to distribute cookies to more children.

2. Body measurement

Euglena April of last year, we have been conducting physical measurements to measure the effects of cookies containing euglena and to measure changes in children's health status. We understand how children are growing by MUAC tests that measure height, weight, grip strength, jumping power, and upper arm circumference (Photos 1 and 2).
At the same time, the result of the second blood test conducted in November last year came out this month. 310 subjects at 3 schools underwent this test. We hope that the improvement status of malnutrition can be measured by comparing and analyzing the results of the first round.

3. Activities to improve attendance rate

In Bangladesh, the attendance rate of children fluctuates greatly due to the influence of religious events and family circumstances. In order to distribute cookies as planned, it is necessary to know in detail the school opening dates and holidays (which vary from school to school). The annual average attendance rate of these schools is only about 70-75% of the number of students. Since January is a winter vacation every year, the attendance rate will drop significantly. In a briefing session for teachers and parents, the staff reiterated the importance of continuing to eat cookies and emphasized the importance of attending school (Photo 3). In this way, we emphasize dietary education as a motivation for children to go to school every day. At SSKS free primary school, the attendance rate in December was less than 40%, but the attendance rate in January increased to 70%, probably because these activities contributed a little.

4. Athletic meet

In Bangladesh, many schools hold athletic meet in January and February. As in Japan, competitions such as the 50m run are also held, but many schools with small schoolyards play the traditional sport "Cock Fight". "Cock Fight" is a competition like "sumo" in which you grab your right foot with your right hand and jump with one foot while hitting your opponent's shoulder against your shoulder and pushing the opponent out of the base or pushing it down (Photo-). Four). Children love this sport very much. At the athletic meet of NL free primary school, the "Cock Fight" competition was held mainly by male students in the 4th and 5th grades. The children who fell down one after another, and it became a heated battle. On the other hand, a skipping rope competition was held for female students in the 4th and 5th grades. Children who are training by skipping rope on a regular basis can jump continuously for a long time, so it took time to decide the first place. I realized that athletic meet is a fun school event for children in every country.

5. Bishaw Ijetema

Bissho Estima is an Islamic pilgrimage festival. This pilgrimage, which is said to be the second largest in the world after Haji in Mecca, is held in Tongi, a suburb of Dhaka. This year, January 13-15 and 20-22, about 10 million Muslims gathered from all over Bangladesh and around the world. Buses are very crowded with people heading for the pilgrimage festival, so some people walk for about 3 hours from Dhaka city (Photos-5, 6). After school, children at Islamia Alim Madrasha also wore a white hat "Tupi" and white clothes "Punjabi" (Photo 7), went to Tongi with their parents and teachers, and prayed. I did.
