Euglena cookies to Rohingya refugees

This month, we provided support for Rohingya refugees using donations from our colleagues and companies.
Currently, more than 800,000 Rohingya are fleeing from Myanmar to neighboring Bangladesh to avoid life-threatening situations. They have been walking in the jungle for a week to 10 days until they reach the campsite. However, the flood of refugees makes it very difficult to secure adequate food, clothing, blankets and minimal housing. Support from international organizations such as the United Nations has begun, but there are still many challenges. The Rohingya massacre by the Myanmar army has been criticized by many countries, and Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, could not prevent it. It is estimated that tens of thousands of people have been burned and killed.
Under such circumstances, with the support of students from the Bangladesh Armed Forces and the University of Dhaka Euglena cookies to the Rohingya refugee camp. One bag of cookies weighs 115 g and 400 kcal, and 45 bags are contained in a cardboard box. They lined up for more than 10 hours to get daily food and barely survived the day. Most refugees are women, children and the elderly, living in very poor environments. There is a limit to what each of us can do for a tremendous number of people, but we receive a lot of support from all over the world. The circle of support connected their lives. I would like to continue thinking about what I can do to realize our philosophy of "healthy people and the earth."

2. Introduction of the principal who struggled to move out of school

This month, we will introduce an episode of a slum principal who struggled to move out of the government. The following is a record of the struggle of Principal Sushamah of Mamunur Rashid school two years ago.
In the case of moving out by public works, in Japan, the government agency persuades the residents for a long time and pays the relocation cost to the residents. However, the evacuation of Bangladesh's slums is not as orderly as in Japan. Government agencies issue evacuation orders to residents a few months ago, but few residents obey the orders and the government often carries out deportations. After the removal, the police will look around to prevent the residents from returning.
Most of the houses in the slums are illegally constructed, and the reality of illegally occupying land is behind the forced removal. In December 2015, the slum area around Mamunur Rashid School was to be removed to build public facilities such as museums, general hospitals and government offices as part of the urban development plan. .. The school had to be relocated, and the teachers, parents and children were all at a loss. However, Principal Susama did not give in and struggled to find a new location. I searched around for about a month, but when I was having trouble finding a good property, I was able to introduce a real estate owner who understood the activities of the GENKI program. The building is conveniently located within a 10-minute walk from where the school was originally located and close to the slums. Not all students, but it was an easy place for children who moved to another nearby slum. The school before the relocation had 6 classrooms, and 150 children of all grades could take classes together, and the rent was 17,000 yen, but the rent of the new relocation destination was as high as 25,000 yen, and the classrooms. There are only four. In addition, the number of people that can be accommodated in one classroom is about 35, and we have no choice but to divide the lessons into two parts, morning and afternoon. Members of the GENKI program also joined the negotiations with the real estate owner and explained the purpose of the program to the owner. Thanks to the understanding of the program, I was able to borrow at a lower price than originally offered, and I was able to reopen the school two months after the move.
Two years since then. Euglena cookies while preparing to relocate can still eat cookies every day.

3. Introduction of Kamurulu and his mother who go to the nursery school

Euglena cookies to children aged 4 to 5 years (a total of 245 children) who attend nursery schools. This month, I would like to introduce Kamurulu, a 4-year-old who attends a nursery school, and her mother.
The nursery school he attends is an affiliated nursery school run by the NGO Aparajeyo Bangladesh. Childcare fees are 350 yen per month for kindergarten children, and they can be deposited from 8 am to 6 pm.
Kamuluru and his family moved from the countryside to the slums of the capital Dhaka last year. My dad earned 15,000 yen a month as a rickshaw driver, and my mom was a housewife. However, soon after I moved, my grandmother who lived in a rural area became ill and sent me monthly, so my mother also went to work. Currently, I work as a cleaner in 4 households and earn about 10,000 yen a month. In Bangladesh, if a mother generally cannot take care of her child, she will leave it to her grandparents, relatives, or a neighbor's house, but a family like Kamurulu's family who has no relatives or acquaintances will use the nursery school. doing. Since moms earn money to local grandmothers, their monthly standard of living is the same as when only dads worked. The mother said, "The contents of the lunch box that children have every day are only steamed rice and one potato, and the nutrition is biased. Therefore, Euglena cookies that can get nutrition in a well-balanced manner are very appreciated. But there are cookies distributed, so I'm glad I put them in this nursery school! "
