1. Started distributing cookies to schools in the suburbs of Dhaka

Starting this month, we have started distributing cookies at Tongi Children Education Program School in Tongi City, which is adjacent to Dhaka. Traditionally, the GENKI program has been developed mainly in Dhaka city, but with a view to future nationwide expansion in Bangladesh, we have started distribution outside Dhaka for the first time.
Tongi Elementary School is operated with the donation of an NGO called Adventist Development and Relief Agency Bangladesh (ADRA). Here, we provide not only education but also medical and health services to 250 children living in slums. Specifically, a doctor visits the school once a month, so children who are not feeling well can be examined for free. In Bangladesh, there are many children who complain of abdominal pain and headaches, and children who suffer from eczema, hair loss and bird's eye due to lack of vitamins and minerals. Tongi Elementary School provides medicines and supplements to children with such medical conditions. Through this activity, doctors and Principal Joan reaffirmed that nutrition is essential because many children do not eat breakfast.
The supporter, the NGO, also understood the GENKI program and decided to pay a part of the activity fee. The principal said, "Until now, we have only been able to provide coping therapy when children get sick. From now on, we will have children and their parents learn the importance of nutrition, which will lead to the prevention of illness. I want to. " We will continue to contribute to improving children's health and nutrition by collaborating with these local supporters.

2. Introduction of Shoron who goes to school with a scholarship

"Shoron, I got a scholarship and now I can go to school!" Mr. Sabji of SSKS Elementary School (SSKS free primary School) spoke to Mr. Shoron (11 years old). At our school, about 35 out of 350 people go to school with scholarships. They were selected after considering their household income and grades. Shoron is the only student selected for financial reasons only. He once dropped out of the school he used to attend due to family reasons, but with the support of Dr. Sabji, he decided to go to our school with a scholarship.
Shoron lives with five people: a mother, an older brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister. A year and a half ago my dad suddenly disappeared. After that, my mom works as a hotel cleaner and my brother works as a day laborer at a construction site. Previously, my household income was 22,000 yen, but since my father was gone, it has become 11,000 yen. As her mother was in dire straits, it became difficult to pay the monthly tuition fee (500 yen) for Shoron, who was in the second grade at the age of 9, and he gave up going to school and picked up garbage every day. I earned about 70 yen a day.
A year ago, when he visited the slums where he lived, he happened to find him reading a newspaper he picked up with a strong desire to learn something, even though he was covered in garbage and dirty. .. Then I visited my home and heard from my mother that he couldn't go to school even if he wanted to. The teacher explained his circumstances to the principal and the managers, and gave various consideration to attending school from the second grade to the fifth grade free of charge.
After that, the mother moved to a housing facility where single-mother families can live free of charge, and is trying to reduce household expenses as much as possible and send him to school. Mr. Shoron said, "Mom, brother, and Mr. Sabuji are working hard to go to school. I want to study hard and become a teacher like Mr. Sabuji and make my family easier in the future." Gave me.
