バングラデシュの縫製工場が集中している地域の学校にユーグレナクッキー配布を開始
【2019年6月】

By June, we distributed approximately 1.48 million meals (progress rate: 64%) against Euglena cookie distribution target of 2.3 million meals for this term (October 2018-September 2019).

1. Started distributing Euglena cookies to schools in areas where garment factories are concentrated

In Bangladesh, one of the major industries is the garment industry, which employs 4.5 million people in about 4,000 factories. For example, Shabar, about 20km northwest of Dhaka, has tens of kilometers of garment factories. This month, we started distributing Euglena cookies to three elementary schools in the area where garment factories are concentrated (number of students: about 1,000 in total). The school is located in Mai Meishin, 60 km north of Dhaka. Sewing factories of Japanese and Western companies are lined up in this area as well. Among them is the factory of TM Textiles & Garments Limited (TMBD), a Japanese company. The factory manufactures T-shirts and other items that are exported to Japan.
About 4,000 employees at the factory are 60% male and 40% female. Of these, the children of about 2,100 employees living near the factory attend local schools. Many employees commute to work on a company-arranged free bus for about 30 minutes, typically working from 8 am to 5 pm. There is no school lunch at school, but it is difficult for mothers to make lunch boxes for their children before going to work. TMBD continues to donate stationery and other items to the school, but was looking for something to do for the health of the children. Meanwhile, Mr. Shinto, the president of TMBD, sympathized with the activities of the GENKI program, which is also active in Bangladesh, Euglena cookies to the school as a school lunch. Mr. Shinto has been working since the factory was launched about 10 years ago, and he always thinks about employees and their families. "I'm looking forward to seeing the children in good health as I participate in school athletic meet. I hope that children's Euglena cookies will improve their health. I would be happy if my father and mother could work at the factory with even more peace of mind. "

2. Participation in the 9th Social Business Day

The 9th Social Business Day was held on June 28th and 29th, 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand, hosted by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. This event is held every year to coincide with Dr. Yunus's birthday as a place for people involved in social business to exchange opinions. This year, about 2,000 social businesses from 60 countries under the theme of "Making money is happiness, Making other people happy is super happiness". International organizations, universities and individuals who are interested in Happiness have gathered.
"Social Business Day is a family gathering day. Like New Year, families get together to announce their activities for a year, inspire each other and recharge their energy," Dr. Yunus introduced about the event. And Emanuel Fabel, CEO of French company Danon, and Spachai Charawanon, CEO of Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) in Thailand, talked passionately about the social business they are doing. From our company, President Izumo and Executive Officer Satake took the stage to announce the Euglena GENKI program and the mung bean business. Four Grameen Euglena friends from Bangladesh also participated and exhibited the Euglena cookies distributed under the GENKI program at the booth and the mung beans cultivated by local farmers to introduce their activities.
This is the 9th event this year, and the signing ceremony of Yunus Yoshimoto Social Action Co., Ltd., which was newly started by Dr. Yunus and Yoshimoto Kogyo, and the de-plastic activity by an 11-year-old Thai girl, actually Grameen Bank. There was a wide range of content, including the announcement of the Republic of Kosovo, which started a small business with a loan from Bangladesh, and the introduction of the business of the people of Bangladesh. I realized that various social businesses are spreading all over the world.
