GENKIプログラム、ラマダン(断食月)のクッキー配布~新学校のプログラム開始
【2016年6月の活動報告 】

1.First of all

Thank you for your continued support of the GENKI program.
First of all, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the victims who died in the terrorist attacks in Dhaka on July 1st, and pray for their souls.
Bangladesh is a very pro-Japanese country. I'm amazed that something like this happened in the center of Dhaka. Such terrorism is unforgivable and I have to feel resentment.

2. Ramadan (fasting month)

Photo-1: Email greetings actually receivedPhoto-1: Email greetings actually received

Ramadan (fasting month) for about a month began on June 7th in Bangladesh. During this period, about 30% of schools will be closed, and attendance rates at other schools will drop significantly. As a result, the number of biscuits distributed in June was reduced to less than half of the normal month.
In addition, this year, the Eid holiday after Ramadan (celebration period at the end of Ramadan) and other holidays overlapped, resulting in 9 consecutive holidays. The beginning of this Eid is determined by the ebb and flow of the moon, so the date is unknown until the last minute.
It will be a very important celebration day for Muslims. At this time, everyone sends greeting cards like New Year's cards to each other like New Year's in Japan. Recently, I often receive greetings by e-mail, but I also exchange various elaborate designs every year (Photo 1).

3. Unique T-shirt

Photo-2: Japanese designPhoto-2: Japanese design

In Dhaka, there are many children wearing T-shirts designed in Japanese like this (Photo 2).
Many of them don't understand the meaning of the letters, but they seem to be accepted as cool fashion items, like the Japanese-designed T-shirts worn by foreigners in Tokyo. This is due to the fact that Bangladesh is a major textile industry, and products and designs for overseas export are also distributed in the city. When I asked this child, it seems that the reason for purchasing was not the meaning of the letters, but the unique and interesting design and character.

4. About children's play

Photo-3: Traditional playPhoto-3: Traditional play

This is a traditional play for Bangladeshi children (Photo 3). It used to be a play that was seen everywhere, but nowadays it can hardly be seen in the city.
Two children are holding each other's feet and hands. If another child jumps over it and can jump over it without touching the two hands, it wins, and if it touches the hand, it loses, which is called "touch jumping". In Bangladesh, there are many games that you can enjoy with your body without using any tools. I would like to continue to introduce you to you through this report.

5. Children's growth

The two pictures below are the same child, but the one on the left is Euglena cookies, and the one on the right is now. I grew up a little bigger and grew plump and healthy (Photos 4 and 5). It's a little difficult to see in the photo, but when I actually meet them, I realize that they have become brighter and brighter. We would like to enhance the program so that the number of such healthy children will increase.

6. Blood test-interim report meeting

Photo-6: Interim report meetingPhoto-6: Interim report meeting

About the results of the first blood test conducted in April
Dr. Forhad Monjur from INSTITUTE OF CHILD HEALTH & SHISHU SASTHYA FOUNDATION HOSPITAL, Grameen Communication staff who requested preparations for the test, and headquarters staff also attended and received a detailed report on the results.
After discussing the issues and policies for the next round and beyond, it was decided to conduct the second round of inspections on 300 children in October.
Also, at a later date, I held a video call meeting with executives and people in charge of the research and development department at the head office in Japan. It is of great significance not only to conduct regular physical measurements, but also to medically confirm the effects of Euglena cookies on malnourished children. We will continue to do our utmost to address this as an Materiality for this term (Photo 6).

7. Summary

As I mentioned earlier, many schools were closed in June due to Ramadan and Eid, and the number of cookies distributed decreased, but it will return to normal from July. In addition, we will make thorough preparations for the second blood test, so we ask for your continued support.
